At their closest point, the Xiaodeng islet is 2000 meters from Da Jinmen, the island under the prefecture and control of Taiwan

Xiamen now has a new sports orientated tourism spot next year. According to Oceans & Fisheries Bureau of Xiamen, they built the first hobbyist or sport fishing park in Xiamen. Called Xiaodeng Island Leisure Fishing Village, the facilities have been created on Xiaodeng Island, one of the isles among Xiamen's many tiny islands.

Together with Dadeng Islet and Jiaoyu Islet, Xiaodeng Islet is one of the famous Three-Hero Islands opposite the Xiao Kinmen and Da Jinmen, two of Taiwanese outlying islands.

Xiaodeng Island Leisure Fishing Village will be about  about 350 mu (about 233345 square meters) in size when completed, and will be comprised of 8 tourism sections. A sea tourism area, beach tourism zone, activities area for parents and children, fitness center, plus a recreational sports area. Also incorporated will be a characteristic seafood area, seafood processing area and laver or seaweed processing section plus an oyster breeding base.

Many historic sites are included in the park too, such as the grand old houses of past celebrities, plus a site where canons once roared, and a civil Defence site etc.

They also built a sea-water bath feature for healthy bathing on the Houbao Yueliang Bay, which will feature  20 cabins situated around the bay.

The most significant area at the park will be the "man-made dead sea", created by developing a high concentration of sea water in the salt field. People can experience the feeling of floating on the dead sea in Xiamen, just as they do in the more famous "dead sea" which lies in the middle East between Israel and Jordan.

The park opened to the public in June in 2009.
