Customers will receive looks of understanding (as opposed to disapproval) from the management when children do not always behave appropriately; There are no dishes to break and/or dishes will not cost much to replace if broken, very few restaurants actually have booster chairs, high chairs or children’s menus. If they do, it is noted in the description.

No Smoking

It is uncommon to find restaurants that have “No Smoking” sections. Some places do have outdoor seating areas.

Pricing

We did not want to include actual costs in the guide because prices change so rapidly. Instead, we have developed a relative measure that should survive the test of time. Restaurants included in the guide receive a bargain rating. If you are only paying a little bit more for the food than if you had bought the ingredients in the market and made it yourself. They receive a moderate rating. If you are paying three times as much and a high-end mark, if you are paying three times as much as the ingredients alone would have cost. A plus symbol + after the bags mean that the cost is more than three times the cost of the ingredients.

Religious Customs

Some restaurants and stores do not sell alcohol and pork because of religious prohibitions in the Muslim religion. They are noted with the guide. While some establishments do not sell alcohol, they will allow you to bring it. We have noted those restaurants in the descriptions and mentioned whether they ask for a corking charge.

Credit Card Use

Credit cards are accepted in some places. But due to the high rate of credit card fraud in Nigeria. It is best to pay cash or use a local debit card if accepted in the establishment. Leave credit cards locked in a safe place and do not use them here.

Tipping

Most establishments add 10% gratuity onto the cost of the meal. Tipping is therefore, discretionary. It is not unusual for customers who appreciated the service and/or the ambience to leave an additional 5-10%. At some restaurants the staff say that they do not receive the automatic 10% gratuity.

Eateries and Entertainment

Abuja has a fair variety of restaurants. A wide range African cuisine is available. There are also good Italian, Chinese, Indian, Caribbean, Lebanese, continental and Africa cuisine can be found. There are causal cafes, out door garden restaurant/ bars, fast food establishments as well as bakeries with home-made ice cream be enjoyed as well.
