Originated in the Tang Dynasty, Guilin combs boast a history of over 1,000 years. Having been developed and improved through the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties up to today, they have become traditional and iconic products of Guangxi. Some combs were commonly known as the “Royal Comb” and “Great Comb”.

Bamboo comb: Guilin bamboo combs are made of local bamboo through a refined process. They are flexible, durable and elegant. Major products, such as comb No 808, No 608 and No 708, enjoy great popularity both at home and abroad and have won the reputation of “Great Comb”.

Bone comb: Bone combs were developed from bamboo combs in the Qing Dynasty and have gained popularity ever since. They are made of bovine bones instead of bamboo and have carvings of the local scenery and people on their back. Hence they are more solid and beautiful than ordinary bamboo combs.

Horn comb: It is said that bull horns and sheep horns were developed from wooden combs in the Ming Dynasty. The production procedures reached a high level during the Qing Dynasty, especially that of sheep horn combs. With a transparent look and gorgeous pattern, it is favored by many people.

Yellow poplar comb: These combs are made of rare yellow poplars through a refined process. The craftsman makes different combs according to different materials – carp shaped comb, bamboo joint shaped comb, semicircle comb and so on. Being both original and elegant, this comb was favored by the royal families during the Qing Dynasty and hence has been known as “Royal Comb”.
