One of the landmarks of Yangshuo, the Green Lotus Peak gets its name from its resemblance to a green lotus waiting to bloom. At the southern end of Yangshuo Bridge, about half a kilometer east of the Green Lotus Peak, there is a lotus-watching platform from which tourists can see the peak at an angle where it most looks like a graceful budding lotus fresh from a bath.

The mountains has many pavilions, moya (stone characters/statues carved on cliffs) and steles (stone and wooden slabs erected as monuments) among the green hills and trees, inspiring a lasting sensation of splendor. Green Lotus Peak is a haven of natural scenery, cultural relics and rare treasures and is famed as "the greatest peak in Yangshuo".
From ancient times to the present day, hundreds of celebrities, literate giants and dozens of state leaders have paid homage to the site. Some of them have left numerous calligraphy works and poems, among whom are Buddhist Master Jianzhen and poet Cao Ye of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), traveler Xu Xiake of Ming Dynasty, and contemporary state leaders including Zhou Enlai, Chen Yi, and Deng Xiaoping.
