Guilin Songgao, a kind of steamed glutinous rice, is made from round combined with yellow sugar water. It is most palatable when freshly cooked and warm. People usually cut it into slices when it is still steaming so they can enjoy it while it is soft, refreshing and sweet. This can also be accompanied with Lipu taro cubes.

In the winter, a slice of steaming Songgao will help you get rid of coldness. It also plays a part in local custom when people give away Songgao in such events as birthday parties, celebrations for new born babies, or the completion of a new house. Despite its taste, Songgao in Guilin are usually sold at roadside stalls or in food markets rather than in fancy and expensive restaurants.
