This September Belfast City Council was delighted to welcome the new international student cohort arriving in the city to take up study at our universities and colleges for the upcoming academic year. The event was held in the Great Hall, City Hall.

Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Peter McReynolds highlighted that Belfast and Northern Ireland is the second fastest growing region in the UK in terms of knowledge economy activity and that our universities and colleges are key drivers of this growth.Furthermore, he stated that the universities’ and colleges’ research departments are amongst the world’s elite. They’ve been working together in an unprecedented collaboration with academia and business partners to plan major new investments into innovation and research.
He went on to highlight that our vocational colleges are leaders within the UK and Ireland in teaching, research and business in preparing students for the world of work.
In conclusion, Cllr. McReynolds assured the students that their education and cultural experience would be of the highest quality.
