Machupicchu celebrates 13 years as a wonder of the modern world

The Inca citadel was chosen as one of the seven wonders on July 7, 2007, along with historical monuments such as the Great Wall of China, the Roman Coliseum and the Taj Mahal, among others, in an election called by the New Seven Wonders Foundation.

The authorities and the population of the Machu Picchu district in the Cusco region commemorate the 13 years of the declaration of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu as one of the Seven New Wonders of the Modern World.

The week of wonder began with a unique Inca staging, in his central message the Mayor, Darwin Baca León, highlighted the importance of Machupicchu as the main tourist destination in the world, so it works on health policies and protocols to guarantee health of the inhabitants, as well as of the visitors, for the near aperture.

With a varied program for 7 days, the town of Machupicchu carries out flagging of houses, photographic exhibitions, storytelling and stories, torchlight contest until payment to the Pachamama. The central day will begin with a liturgical celebration in the Virgin of Carmen temple in that town and the hoisting of the national pavilion, and then the delivery of medals to the most important personalities in the district.
