The sauna culture of Finland is reviving in Helsinki. In the summer of 2016, you can enjoy Finnish Sauna in the downtown in different new ways. You can experience Löyly Sauna which will soon be opened to the public on Hernesaari, or you can try traditional public sauna.
Newly-developed Islet for Entertainment—Vallisaari
This newly-developed islet is waiting for you to explore it! Vallisaari will be opened to the public in the summer of 2016. The islet is adjacent to the Suomenlinna sea fortress. It used to be a military islet for Finland and is famous for its wonderful natural scenery and diversified plants. In May, 2015, ferryboats begin operating a route, departing Market Square and heading towards Vallisaari.
Swim in the newly-built Helsinki Pool
The newly-built Spa Center of Helsinki Pool is located near Market Square. It was opened to the public in the spring of 2016. You can swim, experience sauna and enjoy the wonderful seashore all the year round. How wonderful it is to swim in the pool, relax at the café and enjoy the spectacular atmosphere of the downtown! (Admission fee is needed.)
Newly built and renovated museums
For visitors who love museums, Helsinki is a perfect place. In the downtown, there are many museums worth visiting, including Helsinki Art Museum (opened in the autumn of 2015) and Helsinki City Museum (reopened in the spring of 2016). Ateneum ART Museum and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art provide visitors with a world-class art experience. Put aside a whole day to enjoy yourself in the museums!

In the summer of 2016, Helsinki will provide visitors with new city bicycles. Then you can enjoy the city and sea scenery on two wheels.
Hernesaaren Ranta
During the hot summer in Helsinki, do you want to have a party under palms trees? If the answer is yes, go to Hernesaaren ranta. The recreational facilities were opened to the public again in April, 2016. Following a successful 2015 success, there will be more restaurants added in 2016. You are recommended to taste Finnish cuisine. In front of the recreational area, there will a new area where some sun loungers will be set, so that you can cozily listen to live music. During the daytime, you can exercise at the new beach volleyball court and the outdoor yoga place. Beside the dock, you can watch those wonderful boats while the DJ will be playing music from the tent. On Sundays, the time for breakfast and lunch is from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.

Finland will celebrate its 100th Anniversary of Independence in 2017. This will be the most important celebration for the Finnish people of this generation.
In 2017, lots of wonderful activities will be held for the 100th Anniversary of Finland’s Independence. The celebration will be jointly held by Finnish people and friends of them. The premier office will plan the activities for the celebration.
