Sri Lankan State Minister for Tourism Diana Gamage predicted on Friday that the revitalization of the tourism industry in Sri Lanka will attract 2 million tourists in 2024, generating estimated revenue of USD 6 billion.
Addressing the media at the Presidential Media Center, Gamage said this year has seen over 700,000 tourists visiting the country, and in 2023, more than 1.4 million tourists arrived, reflecting a remarkable 106 percent growth compared to 2022.
The state minister said that the measures are underway to further boost the tourism industry, adding that challenges, such as reported ticket price increases at popular attractions, are being addressed.
Sri Lanka earned over 2 billion dollars through tourism in 2023, according to the country's central bank data.
