The old town is the most picturesque and one of the busiest areas of Nice. Take a walking tour through the narrow streets to discover its curiosities, history, colourful markets and artists’ studios.

Don’t forget to wander around the Cours Saleya, the place to be ! You can also sample local specialties like Socca (chickpea flatbread with pepper) and Pissaladière (Onion and anchovy pie). During the daytime it hosts everyday an exceptional fruit, vegetable and flower market and once a week, on Monday, the antique market.

Taste a wide range of olive oils, from small producers to “grands crus” and “Appellation Contrôlée” in one of the numerous specialized shops of the old town.

A unique gastronomy

A large number of restaurants have decided to transform this variety into a shared asset. Beyond its world-famous "salade niçoise", Nice is the only French city with Lyon to have its own appellation : "Cuisine Nissarde" (term in local dialect called Nissart).

Its dishes reflect the local lifestyle and the respect of local products, always accompanied by its legendary healthy aromatic herbs and olive oil. The restaurants which have received the "Cuisine Nissarde" Label are easy-to-identifiy by the sticker on their window.

Restaurants strictly respecting the rules of Nice cuisine can apply for this label

Take a break on one of the sunlight café terraces and admire the famous Promenade des Anglais, gracefully following the perfect curve of one of the most beautiful bays in the world : the "Baie des Anges" the Bay of Angels.

Did you know ? Nice is the only city in France to have a vineyard with an AOC (protected designation of origin) on its commune, obtained in 1941. On the hills of Bellet, located at only 15 minutes from the city centre, one of oldest type of vines of France gives remarkable red, white and rosé wines, whose good reputation has since a long time exceeded the borders.

During his visit in Nice, the King Sun, Louis 14th choose Bellet as one of his favourite wine and made the decision to make sure it was always available at Versailles table’s.

This vineyards on the Nice hillside are open to the public, showing them the production process and demonstrating local cultures and traditional manufacturing methods. Indeed, the harvest are still made handmade as it was the case when the romans brought the first grapes in the region millenaries ago.

Lifestyle, pure air and authenticity are the first emotional qualities, allotted spontaneously to Nice.

All the pleasures are joined together : gastronomy, culture, history, well-being, shopping between the unique blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the protection of the Alps only one hour away where you can practice winter sports from December to March every year.
