Summertime visitors to the Suomenlinna sea fortress, located only 15 minutes from the Market Square by ferry, can enjoy high-quality cultural events on the island. The fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers its visitors a journey into history in a wonderful maritime environment.

Guided walking tours daily

The best way to experience the fortress is by participating in a guided walking tour organized daily in the summer season. The tour is available in four languages: English, Russian, Swedish and Finnish. Children will enjoy grabbing their torches and exploring the labyrinth of the walls and tunnels of the fortress or marvelling at the old cannons.

Six museums open during the summer

There are a total of six museumson Suomenlinna. In the Suomenlinna Museum Day?that falls on June 6, visitors are offered free admission to all the museums in the fortress. For affordable visits to the museums on other dates, you can buy a combined ticket, which is valid throughout the whole summer.

Events throughout the summer

Other cultural events on Suomenlinna include Les Lumières, a culture festival in the spirit of the 18th century, as well as Viapori Jazz, a musical event organized during the Helsinki Festival, presenting a lineup of prominent artists for the enjoyment of music fans.

In summer 2015, visitors to the Suomenlinna area are offered the opportunity to experience sailing on a unique historical ship, a cannon sloop constructed in accordance with 18th century designs. The ship will be open to visitors on weekends in July.
