Hungary's tourism industry keeps booming

Guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary rose 1.6 percent year-on-year to 4,634,000 in August, Hungarian Central Statistical Office KSH announced here in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, the number of guest nights spent by foreigners were up 2.3 percent at 2,089,000 and the number of guest nights spent by domestic travelers increased by 1.0 percent to 2,545,000.

The occupancy rate at hotels edged up 0.8 percentage point to 76.5 percent.

Tourism is one of the pillars of the Hungarian economy. Tourism revenues could grow by 10 percent this year, the sector accounts for 11 percent of Hungary's GDP, which should be raised to 16 percent by 2030, according to the official plans of the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
