The Save Future Travel Coalition put in a joint submission to the Global Travel Taskforce earlier this week, ensuring the organised travel sector has a strong, united voice, on the reopening of international travel.

As well as highlighting the need for a risk-based approach to restarting travel, and outlining the common principles for making that happen, the submission strongly emphasised the impact the shutdown of international travel has had on travel agents and tour operators, and what would happen to the industry should there be a delay in restarting travel. There was also a focus on the importance of a coordinated approach across the four-nations.

In addition, the Coalition highlighted the lack of sector-specific grants support in England tailored at the devastating impact of constraints on trade in the international travel sector, and the disparity in financial support when compared to other sectors, other parts of the UK and other countries. The letter urges the Government to consider a sector-specific restart grants scheme for travel to correct this imbalance, and says that any further extensions to restrictions on international travel, either across the industry or for parts of it, must be matched with adequate schemes of financial support.

The joint submission builds on the Coalition partners’ individual engagement in the taskforce, ensuring the taskforce hears from the full breadth of the organised travel sector. The Coalition has been meeting weekly, as well as having frequent exchanges in between, to share ideas and coordinate messaging and activities on the restart of international travel.

The Save Future Travel Coalition includes 15 leading travel bodies and campaign organisations: ABTA – The Travel Association, AITO – the specialist travel association, Advantage Travel Partnership, the African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA), the Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents (ANITA), the Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (ATAS), the Business Travel Association (BTA) , Cruise Lines International Association UK & Ireland (CLIA), Keep Travel Alive, the Latin American Travel Association (LATA), the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association (SPAA), Seasonal Businesses in Travel (SBIT), The Travel Network Group (TTNG) and UKinbound.
