Philippe the Original is located in the corner of Alameda Street and Ord Street, on the east side of Chinatown. It claims to be the origin of the L.A. French Dip, and numerous guests arrive in an endless stream every day since its opening in 1908. When eating at this restaurant, you have to order the beef sandwich of French dipping sauce and it also provides the L.A. French Dip with a choice of turkey, pork, or lamb meat, etc. The food here has a mellow flavor and will lead you to endless aftertastes.
The historic entrance of the booth, experienced waiter wearing with 50’s retro uniform, and coffee costing only 45 cents, will tell you about the intriguing story here. Selecting a table, squeezing some spicy mustard on sandwiches, ordering a plate of salad, and drinking a cup of coffee is a great way spend a leisurely afternoon. If you can still eat dessert, you might as well taste a big piece of blueberry or chocolate cream pie. The wine selection is slightly on the limited side, but you can still try the Frog’s Leap Merlot.
