Qingdao International Beer Festival, the largest of its kind in Asia, started in 1991. The annual festival opens on the second weekend of August and lasts for 16 days. Activities during the festival include the opening ceremony, presentation of world famous beer brands, beer tasting and drinking, parade, recreational and sports activities, leisure, tourism, trade exhibition, and the closing ceremony. During the festival, the main avenues and alleys in Qingdao are decorated elaborately, and the whole city is a visual and aural carnival. The 33-hectare International Beer City is filled with festivities.
