Qingdao International Handicraft Mall was established by the Qingdao Shengwen Group on the basis of “working with the Government, being market-oriented, scientific programming, and sustainable development.”
With support from local government, it was established in order to develop cultural industry, build an international platform for various handicraft commodities and develop a market for cultural commodity exchanges between China and the world. It is also a platform for promoting creative cultural industries based on the idea of enriching tourism through the exchange of cultural commodities and, conversely, promoting culture through tourism. The Mall was listed as national AAAA level tourist area by the National Tourism Administration in 2008.
Currently, it is the only 4A level tourist and shopping area in Shandong Province. Qingdao International Handicraft Mall will be constructed in two phases with a total floor area of 200,000 m2. It is located at the junction of 308 State Way and Huaxian Road in Chengyang District.
It is close to the Qingyin Expressway exit and enjoys convenient road, marine and air transportation. The first phase comprising a 60,000 m2 business area was put into operation in 2007. It has an annual turnover of RMB 1.6 billion. Commodities from 17 countries and regions can be found here. As for fashions, here you can find fine jewelry, precious stones, jades, Korean style ornamental items and Korean garments.
The Mall was listed as “one of the ten major special commodity trading markets in Shandong” by the Shandong Provincial Economic and Trade Commission. As for arts and handicrafts, there are paintings and calligraphy collections, antiques, porcelain and wood carvings and gifts. It was officially named “Shandong Province Cultural Industry Demonstration Base” by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture.
