A New Art Festival Linking Sapporo with the World

July 19 – September 28, 2014

The city of Sapporo will host Sapporo International Art Festival 2014 as a symbol of the cultural and artistic creativity of its citizens—which can engender new lifestyle, cultural, and industrial activities—and as a vehicle for communicating such creativity to an international audience. Welcoming musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto as guest director, the festival will be held under the theme of "City and Nature" to explore optimum approaches to their coexistence, inviting innovative proposals on the kind cities in which residents themselves would want to live in the twenty-first century. The Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art and the Sapporo Art Park will serve as the main venues, and collaborative events with cities outside Sapporo will also be explored.
