A great appeal during every season
“Sculpture of the Earth” created by Isamu Noguchi
Moerenuma Park is located in the northeastern part of Sapporo and was constructed on what was once a waste treatment plant with 2.7 million tons worth of waste prior to its closing. This city park is approximately 1.89k㎡in area. It began construction in 1982 and was completed in July 2005. The base design was done by Isamu Noguchi, a Japanese-American artist. After his death in 1988, his foundation took over the supervision of the project in accordance with the artist’s will, and it finally reached completion after 23 years. When you visit, you will feel as though you are inside a sculpture rather than standing in a park. Cherry blossoms bloom during the spring and the Moere Beach is open for visitors during the sumer. In the fall, you can watch the Japanese larch turn yellow in the fall and enjoy cross country skiing in the winter. It is a park that has many attractions throughout the year.
