Introduction: Shangqinggong, a well-known Taoist temple, stands on Cuiyun Peak of the Mangshan Mountain in the northern suburb of Luoyang. Legend has it that Taishang Laojun, the grand supreme elderly lord, once practiced alchemy here. The temple was built during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). The steep mountains where the temple is located are blanketed with luscious, dense forest that looks like green clouds. Cuiyun Peak is named after this view, as the name literally means Green Cloud Mountain. Tranquil and blessed with cool weather and beautiful scenery, the temple is an ideal summer resort.
