Avocados, for example, are supposed to help increase the absorption of antioxidants in other superfoods such as spinach and tomatoes, so the Medallion of Smoked Salmon starter, for example, is accompanied by a tart guacamole and crispy celery.

This may go against the grain, but apparently it’s also best to avoid eating meat with potatoes as this may result in indigestion – starches are processed in the small intestine whilst proteins are digested in the stomach. A Deliciously Balanced main course therefore, for example the braised Lamb Shank, is served with leafy spinach and mashed sweet pumpkin instead of the usual carbohydrate-rich potatoes.

Eating healthily doesn’t necessarily mean going without dessert; there’s Bread and Butter Pudding served with a dribble of custard and fresh strawberries, and wash it all down with a healthy juice blend like ‘Apple, Celery and Cucumber’ and ‘Banana, Pineapple and Milk’.

Main Street Café also offers a choice of very reasonably-priced buffets for families or friends including their Weekend Family Buffet Lunch, available from noon to 3pm Saturdays and Sundays, and their popular Japanese and Korean Buffet Dinner (Friday evenings) and Japanese & Carvery Buffet Dinner on Saturday evenings.

Night owls might be interested to know that there’s also a ‘Porridge + Dim Sum + Tong Shui Buffet Supper’ available on Friday and Saturday evenings from 10.30pm to 2am. With a choice of hot dim sum and two types of congee together with Thai and Teow Chew condiments, it’s a perfect way to end an evening out!
