Cultural life in the Russian Capital.

Moscow is rightly considered one of Theatre's world capitals, even though the city's theatrical heritage dates back only to the middle of the 18th century, to the founding of The Comedy House in the Preobrazhensky Village, and the Palace of Entertainments in the Kremlin, which used the fortress's peasantry as actors. The theatrical world of the city has grown quickly and now, only 250 years later, there are around 70 theatres and a number of concert halls in the Russian capital.

Tickets for plays and concerts can be bought directly from theatre and concert hall box offices, or from kiosks called "Teatralnaya Kassa", which can be found in underpasses, inside or near the entrances to almost every central metro station.

Musical theatre in Moscow may not have the popular and political support that it enjoyed in the heyday of the Soviet Union, but the city remains one of the world's centers of opera and ballet, with a uniquely rich tradition that still bears fruit today. As there's no need to worry about the language barrier, this is one experience no visitor should miss.
