Every skull tells a story.

Discover Skulls, a new exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Come face to face with hundreds of skulls ranging from the enormous African bull elephant to a tiny shrew. Walk along an impressive 90-foot-long display of more than 400 California sea lion skulls. Look closely and listen! A few imposter skulls—including a walrus, wolf, and warthog—are hiding among them. Watch a live colony of dermestid beetles demonstrate why they’re known as “bone cleaners.” Become a skull detective and identify mystery skulls as predator, prey, herbivore or carnivore by examining eye sockets, teeth and other features. Hands-on, interactive displays encourage guests of all ages to play with, draw, and explore the science of skulls. There’s never been a better time to explore the world’s only aquarium-planetarium-rainforest-living museum.
