Introduction: Zhougong Temple, also known as the Yuansheng Temple, was built to commemorate Ji Dan, the founder of ancient Luoyang city and Confucianism. Ji Dan was the brother of King Wu of Zhou, founder of the Zhou Dynasty (BC 1046-256). Ji Dan assisted two emperors in governing China and recommended moving the capital to Luoyang. He was respected as Yuansheng, literally meaning "the first sage in history."
