Dingding Gate was the Jianguo Gate in the Sui Dynasty and renamed Dingding Gate during the Tang Dynasty. It was the front gate of the outer city of Luoyang and located on the axis line. In 605 AD, Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty ordered Luoyang be rebuilt and moved the capital there the following year. He was the first emperor to pass through the Dingding Gate. The gate served as the front gate of the outer city for 530 years and is the oldest gate in Chinese history.
