Ban Chao was a famous military strategist and diplomat in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 AD). He was the youngest son of the well-known historian, Ban Biao. Both his elder brother and younger sister Ban Zhao were also famous historians. He used to serve as an envoy to the Central Asian Regions, and contributed greatly to the national amalgamation of China in the Tang Dynasty.
