The Luoyang Museum of Ancient Arts is located in the eastern part of Zhongtou village, Mangshan township, in the northern suburb of Luoyang city (to the east of Luoyang Airport and 6 kilometers away from downtown Luoyang). Construction began in 1984, and it opened to the public on April 18, 1987. Covering an area of almost 30,000 square meters, it is a themed museum. Large numbers of burial accessories such as utensils and ornaments, pottery tomb figures made in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) and Wei-Jin Period, and the tri-colored glazed potteries from the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) are on display.
Three reasons to visit the Luoyang Museum of Ancient Arts
1.The Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs: It covers an area of more than 130 mu (8.67 hectares) and has a floor area of more than 8,200 square meters. It consists of a group of pseudo-Han Dynasty architectures and a group of pseudo-Northern Wei Dynasty architectures. The whole museum is built with modern building materials and modern construction techniques, and it features a grand scale, antique simplicity and elegance.
2. It informs visitors about the architectural features of tomb chambers, unearthed cultural relics, frescoes on the wall of tomb chambers, the art of brick carving, and the space and environment from which the cultural relics used to be stored.
3. On exhibition are large numbers of burial accessories such as life utensils and ornaments, pottery tomb figures made in the Western Han Dynasty and Wei-Jin Period, and tri-colored glazed potteries from the Tang Dynasty.
