Zhouwangcheng Tianzijialiu Museum is located in Zhouwangcheng Square in downtown Luoyang. It is a historical site museum featuring exhibitions on their original sites and in their original conditions.
It is based on the large-scale chariot-horse pit, which holds the relics of Tianzijialiu – the emperor's own chariot drawn by six horses, a major archeological discovery in the 21st century. In 2002, archeological workers discovered 397 tombs and 18 chariot-horse pits built in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in the eastern part of the capital city at that time, that is, today’s Zhouwangcheng Square.
The biggest and grandest chariot pit is 42.6 meters long from south to north and 7.4 meters wide from east to west. Twenty-six chariots, 70 horses, seven dogs and a skeleton of a human being have been excavated. A number of chariots drawn by two horses and some by four horses have been excavated from the pit. A Tianzijialiu chariot, the emperor’s own chariot drawn by six horses, which is rare, was also excavated.
