The Shanghai Market Walking Street opened in Dec 17, 2000, and was one of Luoyang’s image projects undertaken by the Jianxi district government to transform Luoyang into a tourism city. The street runs 416 meters from Jinghua Road in the north to Xiyuan Road in the south. It is 40 meters wide and paved with colored glazed bricks. The street covers an area of 16,600 square meters and houses more than 500 commercial tenants. There’s a musical fountain in the center of the street, as well as imposing street lamps, flower beds and bronze sculptures. Phone booths have also been established nearby, and the shops along the street have elegant fronts and eye-catching signs. The neon lights and spotlights have made the street a magnificent scene at night.
