The Stadtschloss (City Palace), originally the residence of Prussian kings and German Emperors in the heart of Berlin, is to be rebuilt mora than 60 years after it was demolished to make room for the GDR parliament building and cultural centre, the Palast der Republik (subsequently torn down in 2008).

The new building with its historic façade will be occupied mainly by the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) and the ethnological and non-European collections currently being displayed in Dahlem. The palace will also host the collections of Berlin's Central and State Libraries as well as a large space for public events and exhibitions.

Until the palace is opened to the public in 2019, the Humboldt Box is on hand to provide information about the progress of the reconstruction together with models, computer simulations and plans.
