Twenty-five Peking opera scholars and descendants of famous performers have teamed up to turn Baishun Hutong, Xicheng district, into the capital's first "Peking opera hutong," the Beijing Daily reported.
The 245-meter hutong, located near historic entertainment district Dashilar, first earned its reputation as a hub for the performing arts 200 years ago when an Anhui opera troupe founded a training center for local performers.
Sculptures of famous performers and distinctive characters in Peking opera will be erected in the hutong.
