Penang Boria Festival 2014

This Sunday, bring your family and friends to Penang's Boria Festival 2014 from 8.30pm onwards at Fort Cornwallis. Boria is a very special art form, unique only to Penang. Organized by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara Pulau Pinang, the Festival will showcase 10 of the best Boria Troupes in Penang, merged into one very exciting comedy sketch show.

A typical Boria troupe consists of a leader, a chorus, comedians and musicians. The performance normally begins with a short comic sketches and followed by a song-dance routine featuring a juxtaposition of choral and solo parts. The song-dance routine commonly performed in a western music style and with dance forms such as rumbas, Cha-cha-cha or soul. Boria’s theme varies from Arab warriors, European traders to Chinese shopkeepers around which the costumes and comic improvisations revolved.

Entrance to the festival is FREE.
