In April, Japan had witnessed an overwhelming number of tourist arrivals with as many as 7.86 million hotel and inn stays owing to the Easter holidays and the cherry blossom season, according to the Japan Tourism Agency who confirmed the information on Friday.
This figure represents a rise of about 16% from a year ago.
The figure has been the highest for any month ever since the government started compiling the comparable data in the year 2010, it said. The survey, however did not include the people who used private lodging facilities or cruise vessels instead of hotels.
The government of Japan has been attempting to promote the regional tourism sector of the country quite aggressively.
And, it has also been trying to plug its hotel shortage prior to Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. The Japan Tourism Organization had disclosed earlier that Japan had attracted a record 2.58 million tourists in April represent a rise of nearly 23.9% on year.
Tokyo attracted the highest number of stays in April with 2.09 million followed by Osaka with 1.19 million and Kyoto with 689,600.
Chinese tourists accounted for the highest number of tourists, and this was followed by South Koreans and Taiwanese tourists.
