Designed in the Catalan, modernista style by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and built between 1905 and 1908. The design of the Palau is typical of Catalan modernism in that curves and dynamic shapes are preferred. Also, rich decoration is used extensively. Palau de la Música can hold over 2000 people. It is the only auditorium in Europe that is illuminated during daylight hours entirely by natural light. It has been a home for Barcelona’s choir, the Orfeó Catalá. In Palau de la Música, varieties of music styles are displayed from symphonic and chamber performances to jazz and cançó.
