During Spring Festival, hot springs, skiing and leisure vacations have become top tourism choices in Hangzhou.
Before Spring Festival, Lin’an Daming Mountain Skiing Resort welcomed 2,000 adorable penguin babies as a tourist attraction. Since the first day of the lunar New Year, falling on February 19, the resort has been bursting with tourists. A total of 20,360 skiing tickets were sold during the six days, bringing in an income of 4.5 million yuan ($717.15 thousand)and total skiing revenue of over 9 million yuan, a growth of 105 percent. On average, a tourist spent 516 yuan in the resort, with a 45 percent year-on-year growth. On the third and fourth day of Chinese Lunar New Year, in particular, the number of visits exceeded 5,500. Lin’an Tuankou Hot Spring received 13,500 visits during Spring Festival, with year-on-year growth of 40 percent. A total of 60 percent of the tickets were sold online. Visitors here can enjoy not only the ancient hot spring of western Zhejiang, but also buffets of Lin’an cuisine. During the first five days of the lunar New Year, the room occupation rate in Tuankou Hot Spring Hotel was 97 percent, 15 percent higher than last year, resulting in a revenue increase of 50 percent. In the renowned vacation resort, Qiandao Lake, it was almost impossible to find a vacant room. Occupation rates in Lyucheng Hotel and Junlan Hotel were as high as 91.77 percent.
The surging development of skiing, hot springs and vacation industries marks not only the birth of new growth in the tourism industry, but also the transformation of Hangzhou’s tourism industry from sightseeing alone into both sightseeing and recreation.
