【Introduction】:Vienna Tourist Board sets up a PhD scholarship for students of MODUL University Vienna in order to promote academic education in tourism

The collaboration between the Vienna Tourist Board and MODUL University Vienna is one of the cornerstones of the successful management of tourism growth. Over a period of four years, the board is financing a postgraduate scholarship devoted to "Tourism Compatibility in Cities". The deadline for applications worldwide is June 30.

The boom in city tourism is not just a passing fad – city travel has grown by 72 percent worldwide over the last five years. "The Vienna Tourist Board is also making a contribution to research to ensure that future tourist growth in metropolises – and especially in Smart City Vienna – remains a healthy process endorsed by the population," explains Vienna's Director of Tourism Norbert Kettner. Starting in the winter semester of 2015, the board will finance a PhD scholarship worth 50,000 euros at MODUL University Vienna for research into tourism compatibility in cities. "We have already staked out the discussion of this issue in the Vienna Tourism Strategy 2020. However, we also wish to make a foresightful contribution to sustainable tourism development in urban areas throughout Europe," continues Kettner. Interested applicants holding a master's degree or equivalent, fluent in English and with initial research experience can apply till June 30, 2015.

MODUL University Vienna has been training professionals to the highest international standard since 2007. The Vienna Tourist Board and MODUL concluded a cooperation agreement in 2007 to promote networking between science and business in European city tourism, enhancing professionalism in the tourism industry, and bolstering higher education in tourism. This makes it possible for students with exceptional achievements to obtain an academic education in tourism.
