To mark the World Biodiversity Day on May 22, Macao will open up two field study events to the public on May 23 and 24.
Each day's event will run for two hours from 3 pm to 5 pm. In addition to watching a "bat and environment" themed short film, participants will also be able to search a creek trail in the Seac Pai Van Park and the Casuarina equisetifolia forest near the Taipa Houses-Museum for bat footprints.
By immersing themselves in the activities, citizens will be able to learn the hunting and eating habits of bats, when and where they sleep and what their social lives are like. The benign influence of bats on biodiversity in the area will be demonstrated to the attendees throughout the process.
The events will be free of charge and interested parties between the ages of 7 and 65 are able to submit applications from May 12 to 20. Only the first 20 registrations will be accepted each day.
A shuttle bus will pick up participants at 2:30 pm from the Bajiaoting bus stop and drop them off at the same place on the return journey. Another possible rendezvous point is the Yinjingyuan stop, which can be put into use if requested.
Participants are advised to bring drinking water.
If the number of applicants is less than 10 on any given day or the weather is deemed unsuitable, the events will be canceled or put off.
