More than 560 additional tuk-tuks will put their way onto Bangkok’s streets next January.
In 2010, the iconic tuk-tuk was voted one of the Top 5 Taxis in major metropolitan cities across the world through a survey conducted by Hotels.com.
There are currently more than 9000 tuk-tuks registered in Bangkok, with a total of over 20,000 nationwide.
But the little three-wheeled motor vehicles are so popular among tourists that the Department of Land Transport has approved registration of additional tuk-tuks solely to boost the capital city's appeal.
Meanwhile, as part of Tourism Authority of Thailand’s “Discover Thainess” campaign, Miss Universe Thailand 2015 wore a tuk-tuk outfit as her national costume in the Miss Universe 2015 competition in Las Vegas during December 16-20.
The costume has been designed by Thai designer Hirankrit Pattaraboriboonkul, “taking inspiration from bustling Thai streets, and eye-catching pop culture”
