【Introduction】:Quito mayor Mauricio Rodas has urged international tourists to visit the city following an earthquake on the east coast of Ecuador
Quito mayor Mauricio Rodas has urged international tourists to visit the city following an earthquake on the east coast of Ecuador. He said, “the best way to help Ecuador is to visit Ecuador,” mayor Rodas has a simple message for the world: “Please visit us.”
He added: “We are relieved to be in such good condition, but our hearts go out to our fellow citizens at this time. The best way to assist in the recovery and rebuilding efforts is to embrace foreign visitors.” Mayor Rodas confirmed that the city is safe. Quito received only minor damage to some buildings in the city’s south end. Old Quito is untouched. Museums are open, hotels are open, restaurants are open, the airport is open, and flights are operating normally. Tourism information booths at the airport and major attractions are open and ready to assist visitors.
“Tourism is a vital part of the Ecuadorean economy. For every foreign visitor, up to seven jobs are created. Now, more than ever, we need to open our doors, lay out a welcome mat, and enthusiastically promote all Ecuador has to offer,” said Rodas.
Potential tourists are being urged to keep their travel plans intact and hold off on cancelling. “If you were considering a trip to the Amazon, the Andes or the Galapagos, we want you to visit. As the gateway to Ecuador, we welcome you with open arms. We need you to visit. The best way to help Ecuador is to visit Ecuador”, said Rodas.
