Melbourne has been confirmed as the host city for the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards in 2017.
This annual ranking of the world’s best restaurants was first published in 2002 and has since become the most reputable restaurant ranking in the world.
Melbourne will be the second city outside of London to hold the awards programme.
Tourism Australia and Visit Victoria are working in partnership with the World’s 50 Best team to create a programme of culinary events in Melbourne in 2017.
The announcement was made at the Chefs’ Feast, a dinner for the world’s best chefs and restaurateurs, ahead of the 2016 edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards, held in New York.
In 2015, the world’s No 1 restaurant was El Celler De Can Roca in Girona, Spain. Asia has two restaurants in the top 10: Narisawa in Tokyo (8) and Gaggan in Bangkok (10).
Melbourne’s Attica is Australia’s only top 50 restaurant.
