Waterside performing arts festival
Head for the northern shore of the River IJ and before you know it, you'll find yourself on the lively core festival grounds, located at the NDSM Wharf. But, of course, the Over het IJ Festival also spreads out to a variety of other locations. With heaps of theatre and delicious food, this is one festival guaranteed to take you out of your daily routine. The festival also specialises in location-specific theatre, giving you the chance to catch one-off performances in the most unexpected of places.

Shipping containers
An always-popular part of the Over het IJ Festival programming is the shows performed inside shipping containers. These can feature poetry, improv, scripted theatre, dance or just about anything imaginable – but they're certainly always intimate. Graduated theatre and performance students have carte blanche to create innovative and inspiring performances, so the experiences are certain to be unique!
The language of performance
With a diverse range of performances on offer, the festival caters to all tastes but be aware that some performances will be in Dutch, some in English, while others have no words at all.
Accessibility: the ferry to the NDSM Wharf departs from behind Amsterdam Central Station.
