The future of travel will be driverless vehicle with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) planning to initiate trial rounds of driverless vehicle. People will be able to reach The Dubai Mall from underground parking on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and back.
This will be covering a distance of 550 metres and the shuttle service will have the capacity of holding 6-8 passengers at a time. It will supposedly not cause any problem to other modes of transportation or increase the traffic.
The interesting fact about the driver less vehicle is that it will cross traffic intersections and interact with three traffic lights while reaching to the mall.
Hussain Al Banna, the RTA's executive director of traffic said that Dubai has always been a leader in using artificial intelligence in the transport sector.
The country has already been operating driverless metro for many years, it also has smart traffic light system called Scoot. Scoot will be interacting with autonomous vehicles on a trail that will be conducting on the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.
The pilot project is expected to run in 2018.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum the vice president of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai said that he wants that 25 per cent of all journeys in Dubai to go driverless by 2030.
