Qatar Airways launched a 1st flight to St. Petersburg

Qatar Airways direct flight on a route Doha-Saint-Petersburg first time landed at Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg. Boeing B787 Dreamliner was the first plane, which landed there, but Airbus A320 will serve the direct daily air service of Qatar Airways in future. Petersburg became the second direction of this air carrier in Russia.

The Qatar Airways flight QR279 was made by one of the most modern airplanes: Boeing B787. His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Executive Director of the Qatar Airways Group, H.E. Nurmahmad Kholov and Russia's ambassador to Qatar were on that plane. Upon arrival in Russia, VIP delegation was greeted by Vladimir Yakushev, general director of Pulkovo airport and H.E Fahad Muhammad Al-Attiyah, Qatar's Ambassador to Russia.

"I am very glad that today our first commercial flight to St. Petersburg was conducted. After the successful opening of flights to Moscow we are glad to continue the development of our route network in Russia. With launching this new route, we pledge to continue serving Russian air transportation market at proper level", said H.E Mr. Akbar Al Baker about a first flight launch.

"This opens up new opportunities for both business and travel. Qatar Airways is extensive route network. It will contribute to development of the St. Petersburg tourist market. Now we are connected with one of the largest hubs in the world - Hamad International Airport in Doha", noticed the flight Vladimir Yakushev, general director of Pulkovo.

From now on Airbus A320 will serve Qatar Airways daily passenger flights. There are 12 seats in business class and 120 seats in economy class in this airplane model. On board of a plane passengers will be able to use the special entertainment system with a wide variety of content, which will allow them to spend time in flight with fun.

The opening of air communication between Qatar and St. Petersburg will increase amount of import and export air transportation with Russia. At the moment this figure is more than 40 tons per week for each of directions.

"Today one more step to improve the transport accessibility of St. Petersburg at the world level was made. Opening of a new direction in logistics chain of airports will lead to the development and advertising of St. Petersburg brand in international arena", commented Andrey Mushkarev, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development.

Qatar Airways fleet consists of 200 aircraft that fly on business and tourist routes on six continents.
