City Introduction

Guilin is a prefecture-level city in the northeast of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is situated on the west bank of the Li River and borders Hunan to the north. The city has long been renowned for its scenery of karst topography and is one of China's most popular tourist destinations

Geography

Location

Geographically, Guilin is situated in the southwest of the Nanling Mountain range or northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It sits at the southern end of Hunan-Guangxi Corridor and borders Hunan Province to its northeast. The Hunan-Guangxi Railway runs across Lijiang River and the Greater Guilin area is connected by Guiyang-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, which is currently under construction, as well as National Highways G321, G322, and G323. With a coordinate between 24°15' to 26°23' N and 109°36' to 111°29' E, its elevation is 150 m above sea level. In addition to the northeast part of Hunan Province, Guilin also borders the cities of Liuzhou and Laibin to its southwest and the cities of Wuzhou and Hezhou to its southeast.

Climate

With a low altitude, Guilin has a tropical monsoon climate typical of Central Asia. It has warm and mild weather, abundant rainfall, ample sunshine, and large amounts of heat. It enjoys ideal weather conditions characterized by longer frost-free periods, a clear distinction of the four seasons and concurrence of rain and heat during the same season. With an annual temperature of 19.3℃, it’s a comfortable place to live in. The city’s hottest month falls on July where the average monthly temperature is 28℃ and coldest month falls on January with an average monthly temperature of 7.9℃. On yearly average, it has 309 frost-free days, 1949.5 mm of precipitation, 1490 to 1905 mm of vaporization capacity, a relative humidity of 73~79%, 1670 hours of sunshine, 99.49 kPa of air pressure and a wind speed of 2.2~2.7 m/s with dominant northerly wind. An average annual sunshine duration and atmospheric pressure are 1670 hours and 99.49 kPa respectively.

Tourist season

Guilin has a mild climate, with four clear seasons, and its climate conditions are extremely favorable. The annual average temperature is 19.3 °C, and the old saying is "little snow in three winter months, flowers in four seasons." The best season to experience Guilin is between April and October of every year, during this period there are "May Day" and "National Day" golden weeks, which are also the peak periods for tourism. At this time, Guilin will have a lot of tourists, and room reservations and transportation also reach the peak, therefore the price will rise compared with normal times, so it is better to avoid this period of time and select an off-season to experience this heavenly beauty.
