In the 12th century, Absalon, grand bishop of Roskilde built a fortress; it arose to become the “port of the merchant” (Copenhagen). It is not only the domestic gate but also the gate of Northern Europe. It is an important port city; the whole city is filled with a romantic vibe that charms all the people who come to visit. Tivoli Park and the Statue of Mermaid are the symbols of Copenhagen. The city also has the world’s first pedestrian street, Stroget. The wide variety of goods makes people who don’t like shopping tempted. The glamorous thing not only includes shopping, visiting museums and galleries, but also felling the history here which will make a deep impression in your travel memories. History and Culture

In the 12th century people in Slotsholmen area built a castle to protect a small port that leads to Sweden.

The castle and the residential area nearby are called Købmandens Havn. Later this small port was named by Copenhagen.

In 1254, Copenhagen got the status of a city. In 1369 Hanseatic League treated this booming city as a competitor and completely destroyed it. In 1416 the Danish king moved his residence back to newly built Copenhagen. In 1443, the king formally moved the capital from Roskilde to Copenhagen.

Copenhagen’s urban morphology was the result of the city being regional center for centuries. Copenhagen can be divided into many districts that were formed during different times, apart from one another. Each district has its own personality. Copenhagen’s distinct characteristics, numerous parks, and avenues mostly have bicycle lanes. Anderson spent most of his lifetime in Copenhagen; most of his works were created here. Copenhagen gathers the castles and palace, villages and manors, full of the fairy tale vibe.

Natural Environment

Copenhagen is located in the island of Zealand which is Danish largest island, facing the Swedish Malmo across the sea. Copenhagen rains a lot annually and it rarely snows in winter, winter is not suitable for sightseeing because the city only gets six hours sunshine per day and the sun is not strong. The days are very much like dusk with weak color. But on the contrary, summertime has long daytime hours and short nights that are very suitable for travelling.

Climate

The highest recorded temperature is 31.2 degrees Celsius; the record low is -17.8 degrees. In the history Copenhagen, it has never been out of this range. Copenhagen belongs to the oceanic climate zone which is mild during all four seasons. The highest average temperature is about 22 ℃ (72℉) in Summer, the minimum is about 14 ℃ (57℉), and the winter is about 0 ℃ low temperature (about 32 ℉). The rainfall of four seasons is moderate, but it rains all the year round. There is only a small amount of snow in winter.
