Montevideo Introduction

Montevideo, built in the 18th century during the reign of Spain, is the capital of Uruguay. In the early 19th century, the earlier city Montevideo was colonized by Britain and then by Argentina, Portugal and Brazil, and eventually the city gained independence and democracy in 1825. Montevideo means “I’ve seen mountains” in Portuguese. The neoclassical buildings are still attractive even today.
