Currency

The original currency in Germany was the German marks. After joining the EU, the euro became the legal tender in Germany; the German mark is out of circulation.

There are seven kinds of face value of the euro banknotes, respectively, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500. There are 8 kinds of face value of the euro coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents, 1 Euro, and 2 Euro. At present, 1 euro equals 1.05 USD (March 2017).

Berlin's shops and restaurants tend to accept cash, especially in small shops and restaurants, visitors should carry enough cash. At the main railway station and airport, there are money exchanges for visitors.
