There are more than 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria. The largest is the Hausa-Fulani (29%) in the north; the Yoruba in the west accounts for 21% and the Igbo for 18% in the east. English is the official language and the main national languages are Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. Fifty percent of citizens are Muslim, forty percent are Christians and the rest follow other religions.
