The Velasca Tower is a celebrated landmark of the Milanese skyline, a symbol of the city’s rush towards development and economic growth in the post-war years. It was built by the BBPR Study between 1956 and 1958, in an area heavily damaged by the war’s bombings, just a few paces away from the Duomo.
The tower expresses the strength and self-confidence of Italian Rationalist architecture in the reconstruction years and blends tradition and innovation thanks to the advanced technical solutions that were a trademark of engineers of the time. While the building was built with a view to the future, it doesn’t forget the past and knowingly looks back to the Sforza Castle, of which it recalls the colors and materials.
