Sphinx

Located near the Great Pyramid of Giza at the southwest of Cairo, the Sphinx is the famous relic of Egypt, being the most representative relics of the ancient Egypt civilization along with the pyramid. The height of the statue is 21 meters, the length is 57 meters, among which the ear take ups 2 meters. Other that the 15-meter long lion claws in front, which were built with big stones, the whole statue was sculptured out of a huge stone with inclusion like seashell. The face was the face of the pharaoh of the fourth dynasty of the ancient Egypt (which was the king) -Khafre. It is said that in 2611 BC when Khafre came here to visit his tomb - the Khafre Pyramid Project, he ordered his craftsmen to sculpture a statue for him. The ingenious craftsmen sculptured the body of a lion and used the face of this pharaoh as the head of the lion. In ancient Egypt, lion was the symbol of power. The Sphinx was actually the portrayal of the pharaoh in ancient Egypt. Sitting at west, facing to east, the statue crouches beside the tomb of Khafre.
