Dalian Forest Zoo located in the south of district, inside the Baiyunshan landscape area. The place is near the mountains and sea. In the zoo, you can see various captive birds and reptiles. Moreover, the zoo has many cage free exhibitions on exotic animals from all over the world including tigers, lions, and giraffes. You can also touch the cute and gentle alpacas up close. The cable cars there can take you over the mountains and sea to overlook the Xinghai Square and tall buildings in the districts.

Popular entertainment options include wild gooses shows, elephant shows, seals shows, apes shows and bear boxing. Exotic animal zone, hundreds of tropical plants and four different natural viewing areas can be enjoyed.

Tips:

1 The number one gate is closed due to a governmental construction project. It is suggested that you enter and exit from the number two gate.

2 The zoo is big and may take the whole day to visit the whole place. If the schedule is tight, it is recommended to visit the cage free animal area first, which will take more than half a day. Also, there are more animals and entertaining shows in the free-ranging zone.

3 The package ticket includes the cable car ride. If weather does not permit, the zoo will offer free buses instead.

4 The zoo is located in a hilly area and visitors can take electromobile car (not for free) if they don’t feel comfortable with the long distance walking.

5 Dalian Forest Zoo is near to the Xinghai Square (about 2 miles); visitors can go to the square to enjoy the night view during the evening. If you take a taxi, it will cost 10 RMB to get to its southern gate, and 15 RMB to get to the square.

Transportation:

Captive zone (The northern gate): Take No.525, 529, 715 buses and get off at Forest Zoo Station. Or take No.4, 404, 702, 706 buses and get off at Nanshidao Street Station.

Cage free animal are (The southern gate): Take No.5, 541, 702 and get off at Forest Zoo Station.

Tickets and prices:

Package ticket (cage and cage free animal areas): 120 RMB per person. Elderly people (60-69 years old), students (undergraduates or below) can buy the tickets at half price. Children below 1.3 meter’s height, elderly people (above 70 years old) can visit for free. Electromobile cars are available (20 RMB), small touring train (30 RMB), which only charge people whose height is above 1 meter. Free cable car is included in the package ticket (only opened between the 1st of May to the 15th of October).
